Kai Davis, Fuck I Look Like

Fuck I look like. No really. Fuck I look like?

I look like you got me fucked up is what I look like. You’re lookin’ at me like I’m not supposed to be standin’ here next to you, like we in the same class, but your idea of advanced is too advanced so my mind can’t match you. I think it’s my vernacular, how I got half the consonants and twice the apostrophes so my philosophy can’t be valid, like I speak slave and you speak slave master. This isn’t a plantation, it’s a classroom.

White people think they run shit, because they got money to buy a thesaurus. You say ‘gargantuan,’ I say big-as-shit. It’s still big as shit, it don’t really matter. I guess AP stands for asshole pretentiousness and if you don’t know what that means, look it up, find a synonym, you like doin’ that shit.

You also seem to like judging a book by the color of its author. Because, apparently, Maya Angelou is inferior due to her grammatical errors, but white man, Mark Twain can write a whole novel with nothing but grammatical errors and that shit is a literary masterpiece. Well, I can’t help but to pardon my peoples’ slang, cos real n[…]s ain’t real n[…]s if they ain’t got a twang.

I won’t apologize for mean-muggin’ from the back of the classroom, talkin’ ‘bout existentialism like a mothafuckin’ boss. It’s not your fault if you can’t buy it from (?) me. N[…]s can’t buy it from (?) me either, because as soon as I raise my hand for anything other than a bathroom break, I become a weirdo. And god forbid I excel! A 4.0 means I’m four shades lighter, because apparently, intelligence is a white trait.

At least, that’s what I’ve gathered. This one girl asked me, “Why would I use big words? So I can sound like you?” You know what I sound like? Like I’ve read a book before. According to my people, I act smart, so I act white. So I can’t be black and be smart because black people are dumb? All this is, is self hate and to them that’s acceptable, because white people told us n[…]s not to read 300 years ago and now n[…]s tellin’ other n[…]s not to read. What are we afraid of?

It’s like you think giving 100% means getting 100 lashes and my people don’t even know that we’re working with our oppressors, just passin’ on the torch while we can’t pass the bar, ‘cos the bar’s been set so low, we’re crushing under the weight and you expect me to cut class and get a F, just to perpetuate the stereotype that’s been instilled through this bullshit curriculum? Fuck I look like!?

I will never equate stupidity with my melanin or will I ever sacrifice my skin for the white man’s standards, so never ask that I speak for anyone but me, represent anything but what I stand for, and fight for anything but what I believe in, and if anybody ever expects me to do anything but be myself, they got me fucked up!

From the Feminist Majority Foundation today:

We have just 13 days to defeat North Dakota Measure 3, which will be on the state’s primary ballot June 12th. It is a state constitutional amendment that simply goes too far and could deny a woman basic medical care such as birth control. We need your help.

This dangerous amendment states that “The right to act or refuse to act in a manner motivated by a sincerely held religious belief may not be burdened unless the government proves it has no compelling governmental interest…” We need your help because if this state constitutional amendment passes, it will certainly move to other states and it could have far reaching and alarming consequences:

• A man could claim domestic violence or child abuse laws don’t apply to him because his religious beliefs give him the right to beat his wife and children.
• An employer could deny birth control coverage or other needed medical treatment to a woman under its health plan on basis of the employer’s religious belief.
• A pharmacy could refuse to fill a birth control prescription on the basis of its religious belief.

Help the campaign to defeat Measure 3 and put an end to this so-called “religious freedom” amendment that could endanger women’s health. If passed, Measure 3 will spread - we cannot allow this to happen. Say NO to 3!

The Consent Continuum

bebinn:

This is one of the sheets we were provided today at the conference on sexual assault. The Department of Justice has definitions of affirmative consent - a continuum from written consent to self-defense.

Written Consent

While unrealistic in most sexual situations, this is an explicit and verifiable expression of consent to participate in specific sexual activities.

Explicit Verbal Consent

This occurs when someone says, “yes” to a specific sexual activity. In this case, both the language and exact sexual activity are clear and definite to both partners.

Explicit Nonverbal Consent

Reciprocating a sexual activity or initiating a more intimate sexual activity. For example, if one person kisses another, the other person responds by taking off their clothes. When it is appropriate and “in sync” with the partner’s behavior, such nonverbal communication can be almost as clear as explicit verbal consent.

Ambiguous Verbal and Nonverbal Consent

Expressing some sort of consent in words or action that isn’t necessarily tied to a sexual activity. Examples are saying, “Let’s spend the night together,” or turning off the lights after reciprocating a kiss. Since these responses are ambiguous, there is a higher chance of misunderstanding, based on the other person’s assumptions and attitudes.

Absence of Consent, Acquiescence

Expressing little or no consent or refusal of the situation taking place. An example would be someone acting passive or quiet during sexual activities.

Ambiguous Verbal and Nonverbal Refusal

Expressing vague reluctance or discomfort to a situation. Examples are saying, “I’m not sure this is a good idea,” or only minimally reciprocating a sexual activity. Again, the ambiguity is vulnerable to misunderstanding.

Explicit Nonverbal Refusal

Actively interrupting a specific sexual activity. Examples are pushing away a partner’s hand, getting up, or putting clothes back on.

Explicit Verbal Refusal

Clearly saying, “no,” “stop,” or “I don’t want to have sex with you.”

Physical Resistance

Actively struggling to stop all physical contact, trying to get away, screaming, or calling for help.

Fighting Back in Self-Defense

Actively pushing, kicking, etc. to protect oneself by injuring the assailant. In an extreme case, this would include “justifiable homicide” in self-defense.

Communication is vitally important when it comes to sexual activities, and it is always up to you to be sure your partner is consenting to what is happening. It is never the victim’s fault. It is everyone’s responsibility to understand what consent is, and what it isn’t. If you are ever unsure about your partner’s feelings of safety and comfort, stop and ask!

fandom literally thinks a show where two white guys look at each other and all the asian women are lotus blossom/dragon lady stereotypes is more progressive than a show that hasn’t even aired yet and an asian woman is WATSON.

I keep Rose’s tags when they’re spot on. I keep Rose’s tags a lot.

I even used the word “y’all” and you kept them.  That’s hilarious and awesome.  Most of my comments are actually in my tags.  Just an FYI to followers who never read them.  You’re missing out on amusement.
